The best cookies ever!

My niece has invited me to her house for a few days over the Winter break. She doesn't live that far away, but, it's rare that everyone is at the same place at the same time. For a brief moment I thought this would be a great time to bake cookies with the kids. Then I had a flashback of making cookies with my niece and her 3 brothers.
The trouble began innocently enough. I'd been to a cookie baking party. We had gotten into small groups. Each group would make 4 variations of one basic cookie dough. At the end we each took home 3 or 4 cookies from each batch. There was plenty to give to family and friends. I thought this was so clever and easy. I couldn't wait to try it with my niece and nephews.
Ok. So maybe I couldn't remember any time that they had actually followed directions or listened to me. But, the holiday spirit had taken over.
So. We have four kids. Four bowls. Classic chocolate chip, butterscotch chip, chocolate with walnuts, and mint with chocolate coated mints.
First was the fight over who got what bowl. Then one wanted to crack all the eggs, one didn't want flour up his nose, .....you can see how this was not going well.
Finally, I'd had it. I combined all four bowls. I had no idea what had been put in, if it had been put in, or if it was the correct amount. At some point I had zoned out.
I baked the cookies and took them to work. Honestly, they were the best cookies I've ever made.
Everyone wanted the recipe. I told them it was an old family recipe that I couldn't share.
But, I guess that's what its all about. The sights, sounds, aromas, memories, that make up the holidays.
