Sad Day

It has occurred to me that when I write I must seem pessimistic. I don't consider myself a pessimist. But, rather a realist. If you put a pile of crap in a beautiful box it is still a pile of crap.
So, the fact is, I was not at all surprised by yesterday's tragedy. I also believe there is more violence to come. This is why I couldn't be elated that Biden won. I knew there would be violence. Half of the country was disappointed. Beyond disappointed. Trump was the Great White Hope. I knew there would be consequences. And, just as an added note, my state of Pennsylvania was the one and only state to still object to the election results. That tells you how much they adore the man.
People that work next to a minority are repulsed at the idea of having a minority as a supervisor. But, worse than working with a minority is working with someone in the LGBTQ community. Or even having them in your community is bad enough. And giving these groups a voice? That must be avoided at all cost.
I'm not being dramatic. This is how the 49% that voted for Trump think and feel. It has to be acknowledged before it can be properly dealt with.
Because I am a realist, I don't see the America that should be. I see the America that we have today. An America where 49% of the people voted that we are not all equal. That we are not all deserving of basic human rights. (This includes the LGBTQ+ community).
Because of this I am not one of the ones praying for healing. I know that sounds terrible. But, covering this wound with a bandage won't help. The wound is open, and infected. It needs to be dealt with. Not covered up.
The fact that this morning there were still people who were praising what a gift Trump is to this country speaks volumes. That tells us how much trouble we are in. On January 20th there will be no magic wand. No fairy dust sprinkled, and POOF!
All the bigots are gone. There is a long journey ahead. And I am looking forward to a brighter day.
